In September 2019, Dr. Nuzzolo presented Promoting Older Women’s Engagement in Recovery (POWER) at Combating Opioid Misuse Among Women and Girls: Prevention Strategies at Work, hosted by the Office of Women’s Health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. The event featured Surgeon General Jerome Adams addressing the national opioid crisis, underscoring the importance of coordinated prevention strategies and the unique needs of older women in recovery. Dr. Nuzzolo’s presentation highlighted barriers to engagement, the role of trauma‑informed care, and the clinical frameworks necessary to support long‑term behavioral change.

In December 2019, Dr. Nuzzolo presented Promoting Older Women’s Engagement in Recovery (POWER) for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs at TRI‑Valley in Dudley, Massachusetts. In October 2019, Dr. Nuzzolo presented Opioid Prescribing Policy Changes and the Impact on Chronic Pain Patients at the Eastern Middlesex Opioid Task Force Meeting, hosted by Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. Her presentation examined the clinical and public‑health implications of prescribing reforms, the challenges experienced by chronic pain patients, and the need for balanced, evidence‑based approaches that support both patient safety and responsible medication management.

February 11, 2020 — Dr. Veronica Emilia Nuzzolo, PhD, CADC, and POWER Project Coordinator at the Institute for Health and Recovery, presented on supporting family members of all ages in managing chronic pain and safely handling prescribed medications at a community education event hosted by the Winchester Coalition for a Safer Community. Her presentation addressed strategies for helping families understand chronic pain, safely manage prescribed medications, and reduce risks associated with improper storage or disposal. The session emphasized practical, evidence‑based approaches to maintaining health, safety, and medication compliance within the home.
